A New Year Tour

Happy New Year!  To celebrate the arrival of 2013 we thought we would bring you a photo update of the progress on the Conference Hall. As you will be able to see from the pictures the inside of the building is rapidly taking shape with shower cubicles and wash basins installed in most of the bedrooms. There has also been a lot of  stone facing both inside and out.

Meanwhile in the the Hall we have been enjoying the company of our many Christmas and New Year guests. It will be sad to see everyone leave tomorrow morning. But then it’s back to work as we look to have everything ready for the return of Bible School students on Saturday.

Piecing things together

Following on from the installation of the ‘windcatchers’ last week the building team have now begun the task of slating the roof. As you will be able to see from the pictures they have been very busy and have nearly completed both of the upper sides of the roof. Hopefully by the end of the week they will have finished these sections and will begin working on the lower roof next week.

A peek inside

Whilst work on the roof continues today we bring you a short video clip showing the inside of the new conference hall introduced by Dougie Roy, our Holidays Director.

Visible change

Its been difficult to see much noticeable work going on at the building site over the last week or so. We know it has because we can see people and we can hear them going about their work but most of it has been happening inside. However, work has begun on the paneling of the new conference hall roof today and we can once again see visible change.

It’s a bit like the new group of students who have arrived for Bible School this week. We know that the Lord will already be at work in their hearts as they live and learn in this new environment but it isn’t always visible to us. But we know that in time as we get to know them better and live alongside them that we will begin to see change and we look forward to that.

Today has been workday for half of the student group. So whilst some where indoors in seminars others had the chance to work in the beautiful gardens and do a little physical work and by all accounts they loved it.

We’re filling the rooms already…

…but not with people. The builders have plugged a huge cement mixer into the lower accommodation area of the new conference hall and filled it with concrete. Don’t worry they haven’t completely filled the rooms. They have been squirting in just enough to create a floor. Our photographer managed to capture the whole thing so check out the slideshow below.

P.S. In case you hadn’t figured out where in the Hall those figs were – they are outside the Laundry Room. Congratulations to David Ryan for correctly guessing the location.

Remembering Summer 2012

As our Summer Studies holiday week drew to a close last night we invited our guests to join us in a special event. We wanted to commemorate a number of key events that have taken place in 2012 by planting an oak tree. These events being:

  • 65 years of welcoming guests to Capernwray
  • The Conference Hall rebuilding project
  • The Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II
  • The Olympic Torchbearers and Athletes of ‘London 2012′

Most importantly we wanted to remember that this Summer we have been declaring that ‘We are Torchbearers – Loving the Light of the World’.

It was a great way to finish a great week of teaching by Charles Price, Peter Maiden and Rob Whittaker and as promised here is a free download of the first session of Charles’ series on Philippians. If you want the full series or any other titles from our catalogue then contact our media team – cmm@capernwray.org.uk.

Time for some serious study

Whilst the work continues apace on the construction of the new conference hall our guests at Summer Studies could have been forgiven for thinking they were back in the old one today. The wooden desks have been brought in and they have been eagerly listening to Bible School Principals past and present. Charles Price who has flown in from Canada is teaching on the book of Philippians whilst Rob Whittaker is delivering a great series on doubt in the Christian life.

Check back here later this week for a link to download one of these superb sessions.

The big crane has been today!

Today we saw the biggest crane yet arrive on site to lift the steel into place at the front end of the new building.  I hope the pictures are self explanatory.

The work moves on so fast now!

I don’t know if you would agree but the new conference hall seems to be rising upward at some speed.  I asked one of the site workers if we were ahead of schedule, but the fact that weather has played such a part in the speed of the build, that in some ways it is hard to say if we are or we aren’t.  I am sure out site manager would give us the definitive.  However, these views show the progress of the work up to today, Monday 3rd September, with block work rising upward and the first floor at this end of the building in place.  The big crane is due early this week, maybe tomorrow to put some more of the roof structure in place at this, the front end of the building

Finances are also still coming in, but we are still £1,000,000 short of our target.  Please consider if you are able to help with finance for the new conference hall, or if not, please do pray that the necessary money will become available so that we can complete the work debt free.

To finish the week……rain!

No surprise but it is raining again!  After a sunny middle of the day the rain came down, and so our holiday guests were not treated to the dunking chair – so no staff took an early bath today.  Out on site, the floor at the front of the conference hall started to go in place, and this will form the first floor seminar room, with the studio off to the right.  More joinery work to take place over the weekend, and I believe that the crane will be back next Tuesday.

Hope you have a great weekend.
