At the end of the week!

Talking to Paul on site last night, the site workers had had a very wet day yesterday.  The rain had lashed down here (just as on the M6 where I was driving to Coventry, and in other places throughout the country) and they were squelching around the site with water to the tops of the wellie boots!

Still, today the mixer was back on site, and more of the foundations have been laid.  The pallets laid around the area are for putting the blocks on once building starts.

The revised date for the steel work starting to arrive is now 16th July – so not long to wait before the main structure starts to be erected.  meanwhile here is a picture of the site at 16:00 today.  Hope you all have a great weekend, and that the weather is much better.

More from the pour! – Updated

An early start to the day here at the Hall.  On a wet morning, work goes on around the site.  Our first holiday week, Refresh is now part way through, and is going well.  Under the holidays tab, I have added some pictures of our holiday guests enjoying the meeting in the marquee.

Below is Matt’s video taken yesterday afternoon, Tuesday 26th June.  Hope you enjoy the update.    :-)

Here is a gallery from yesterday afternoon for you to view:

Concrete Paw

Sorry ‘pour’ not ‘paw’ – although the guys were up to their knees in concrete!

Today our intrepid photographers were allowed onto the actual site, suitably equipped in their yellow jackets, safety helmets and steel toe caps to view the the pouring of some of the footings.  Having just arrived back from Kirkby Lonsdale, and missed the fun, I guess I will just have to settle for the video and pictures.  For now, here is a quick taste of today’s progress with a few of the pictures.  I will upload more pictures and the video tomorrow.

Our thanks go to the generosity and courtesy of the Conlon site workers, (Paul, Paul, Tony, Glyn and Phil), who go out of their way to help us with this blog by keeping us informed and allowing us to take these pictures of them at work.  Thanks guys!

On a blustery day in June.

Friday 22nd June, the sun is shining brightly and not a cloud in the sky.  Well I can but dream!  Today we have seen some torrential downpours and heavy cloud, but not daunted we carried on getting the ‘Big Tent’ ready for the start of our holiday season tomorrow.  Some adjustments were needed as it was being tested by winds of around 20mph.  As I sit here updating the blog now, we still have a tent on the front car park ready for tomorrow!  Rain or shine – a Capernwray holiday is packed full of great teaching and activities for all ages, so no time to worry about the weather.

Anyway, here are some pictures of the inside of the tent. Sorry the power was already shut down, but it looks bright, and with the lights on, it is even better.  The stage is set and ready to go.  This week our guest speaker is our Bible School Principal, Rob Whittaker.  Looking forward to tomorrow. Hope those are coming have a safe journey, and for those staying at home, please do have a fantastic weekend.

Oh….did I mention our holidays have an Olympic Theme this year?  The first picture is not only of the Olympic flag, but of Chard in our marquee studio.  Why not challenge him to a timed race around ‘the loop’ when you are here, but beware, he is an ex marathon runner!

Good morning from a very wet Capernwray

It may be wet but our spirits are not even dampened by this weather.  It was a hot sunny start to the week, but as the Olympic Torch is coming through Carnforth today, I guessed it would rain.  Some staff have gone down to see it pass through so hopefully I will have a picture for you later.  Our theme for our 2012 holiday season has an Olympic flavour to it so we are very much looking forward to that.  We are also hoping to show the Olympics on the big screen in the marquee, which we are now almost ready to move into.  Come back later and I will try to give you an inside view.

For now, here is a picture of the building site.  Think of those lads out on site in the pouring rain.  The new build is heading up to an important stage, with precast floors about to go down and steel work soon to follow.

Come back later for an progress update.

A quick trip round the site, 19th June 2012

Not much happening around the site today.  The project plan is showing some groundwork to start soon, and steel work at the end of this month.

I took a wander around the site this morning, and the resulting video (sorry about the quality) shows how the main site and the summer marquee are coming along.  Much to do, but slow progress at the moment.  Hope this at least gets you up to date.

Latest:  The floor is currently being put down in the marquee, so come back here for an update tomorrow.

Friday 14th June – Nearly at the top!

The infill at the front is nearly completed, and the site workers tell me that they will now move on to concentrate on the footings for the sides of the building and the arrival of the steel work in a couple of weeks.  Watch this space!

Meanwhile, we will be back on Monday with the latest updates.  Nothing scheduled for Saturday and Sunday that I am aware of.  Have a good weekend.

Oh…….the tent has kept out our beautiful English weather…..dry in the rain, bright and nice and warm when the sun shines! Should be a fantastic venue for the conference meetings over our summer holiday season.

Still some spaces available on selected weeks!

Announcing a new arrival!

Before the news of the building site and the marquee……

Congratulations to Matt (one of our graphic design team) and Laura on the birth of their son Reuben.  He was born yesterday afternoon, and weighs in at 7lb 10 oz  ( 3.4kg).  All are doing well.

On the main site, work goes on, and the in fill is progressing at the front of the building.

Picture inside the new tent as it is kitted out

Today we have started to install the electrical and audio visual cabling into the Summer Conference Hall.  The flooring will arrive this weekend.

Above is a quick snap of what it looks like inside.  More as soon as I have it.

The ‘temporary’ new conference hall !

We did it in a day!  The new conference hall is built and ready to equip.  Well not really the new conference hall! This slide show is of our temporary conference hall, erected all in a day. The door panel is not yet in, and there are one or two bits of ‘pegging’ down still to be done, but it is largely ready for kitting out for our summer holiday program which starts in ten days time.

Check out our holiday program!

Many thanks to Dave, Simon, Phil, Dougie and our cheerleader team of Amanda and Julie, (and a little help from me in between taking the photographs), whose hard work made this possible in a day.

Work on the big new building is continuing, and the ‘boys’ and ‘girls’ have been doing back breaking work digging a trench to put the mains cable and some other services in which will feed the ‘real’ new conference hall.  Many thanks to them too….. they are doing a great job.

Wednesday morning, 13th June 2012

A big day here at The Hall.  A couple of pics to start the day.  The first is the staff ‘boys’ digging the trench that will contain the mains supply and other service wires (eg. Internet) to the new conference Hall.

The next ones show the marquee being erected on the front car park.  This will be the home for our summer conference season.  Watch later to see how the marquee is progressing.
