How the Conference Hall came down

Spectacular footage here with sound, compliments of Dougie Roy our Capernwray Holidays Director.  Some nice little information snippets on the ‘Grab’ by the Conlon’s site manager Paul.

Many memories disappearing in this, our most detailed clip to date.  Why not share your conference hall memories on our page on this blog site.

Come back tomorrow…….the front is now down and images are being prepared.  Not a good day for the ‘Grab’…..the heavy unit that drives it broke down!

Want to support the rebuilding of the conference hall, then go here.

And finally – the big day!

On Friday 27th April, 2012 the big machine moved in and here is the result.  It all happened so quickly with the building being dismantled, the debris sorted and then removed in skips.  Short work made of such a long standing structure.  We will load pictures and perhaps some close up real time video early next week, to give you a better view of how the demotion actually looked from the site barriers at the front of the conference hall.  Don’t forget to come back and take a closer look. (First pictures taken at the rear of the conference hall during demolition are on the picture gallery now!)

There was quite a large crowd watching this afternoon, as the ‘Grab’ tore away at the main part of the building.  Credit to the team that put the conference hall up – it did not come down easily as seen from the video!

Soon after 3pm this afternoon, timeout was called – we await tomorrow’s final demolition job then the clear up starts!

Please remember that this is all taking place due to the generosity of our supporters and grant trusts, and we are still looking for funds to complete the project in time for our summer season in 2013.  If you would like to assist, please consider making a donation and go here or here to do so.  If you would like to support us in prayer then that will be fantastic too.  If you would like more information, please send us an email to info@capernwray.org.uk.

Many thanks and look forward to being with you again next week.

Have a good weekend.

Tuesday April 17th – a work in progress.

A busy day at Capernwray Hall.  Our 160+ students have arrived for Spring School, with the last due to arrive tomorrow.  The information sessions are complete and lectures are under way.  Graham Stamford is lecturing on Ephesians and Mark Thomas on Deuteronomy.

Work is progressing on the old conference hall.  The picture below shows men on the roof starting with the removal of the tiles.  In the background is the access road and site equipment.

If you prefer, why not visit out YouTube channel and watch our time lapse videos, that we are producing on a regular basis.

Tomorrow this view will change!

Sun has set on the old conference hall.  Its Sunday 15th April 2012, and tomorrow this view will change for ever.  Interesting to see someone there taking a picture as the place is now populated with our student body, eagerly awaiting the start of Spring Bible School 2012 tomorrow.

Tomorrow, we will also see the contractors starting work on demolition of this good old building and then over the next weeks, the new one will rise up to take its place.

Come back tomorrow to see how this landscape has changed.  We will try to keep you posted on how the development is moving along, both in this blog and with our monthly e-newsletter.  If you would like a copy of that newsletter please do let us know.

Don’t forget that elsewhere in the pages of this blog, you can tell us your memories of the old conference hall.  We would love to hear from you.

Take a look from the tower at Capernwray Hall

The new web cam is up on the tower of Capernwray Hall, and from here we are able to show you images of a work in progress.  We hope to be able to provide a ‘live feed’ in the near future, but today, in the pouring rain, our technicians were able to place the camera and provide the first images of the old conference hall.

We said our final goodbyes to the old building this morning, with staff devotions being held there.  The old conference hall, which has stood the test of time through many Bible Schools and Holiday Conferences, is now empty, and we have removed as much equipment and furnishings as we may be able to reuse at some time in the future.  The ceder cladding used to finish the outside of the building has been taken off, as we may be able to recycle this on other projects.

To the rear left of the picture you can see that the contractors have been on site, and the access road is now nearly complete.  Tomorrow, work will begin and scaffold will be put up around the building in preparation for the removal of roof tiles.

We will try to put pictures here on the blog as soon as we can.  Our technicians are working on a way of bringing you a ‘live feed’ or at least a flow of pictures so that you can see the work progressing.

Thank you again for all your prayerfull and financial support as we take a huge step of faith that God will provide everything we need to see this project completed in the next year.
